“Scrooges threatening to steal Christmas”

This has to be one of the most disgusting headlines ever, and it comes to you from the Sydney Morning Herald.

The suggestion that the role of citizens is to spend, and if they don’t spend then they should be called names and told that they are ruining tradition is dumbfounding.

We’ve been through a wonky period in the economy, and constant news from Europe shows us that the risk has not passed. Paying down credit cards and other debits is prudent at such a time.

Are retailers doing it tough? Well, that’s called business risk. They’d be doing it tougher if the Government hadn’t plugged up their profits with xmas handouts during the financial crisis.
